Championship Title – South Wales Safari Championship 2006
The Championship is organised by the Glamorgan Off Road Club, Mid Wales Four Wheel Drive Club and the West Wales 4 x 4 Group, and comprises of the 7 rounds as laid out below .
All events are of National B status
All events should start no later than 10 am following Scrutineering between 0830 and 0930. Marshals must be in position on course by 0945.

The Championship will be held under the general regulations of the Motor Sports Association (incorporating the provisions of the International Sporting Code of the FIA) and these Championship regulations.

In order to introduce a level of consistency to increase safety and remove confusion across the three participating clubs, representatives have met and agreed the following supplementary rules to be applied at every event.
All existing MSA/Club rules will still apply unless in direct conflict with those detailed below.
DRIVER ELIGIBILITY
Each driver must hold a valid MSA License. Application forms will be available on the day of the event for new drivers. Each driver must hold a valid club membership card of the Glamorgan Off Road Club, West Wales 4 x 4 Group or the Mid Wales Four Wheel Drive Club or invited Club
Only drivers who are members of one of the three named Clubs can register to compete in the 2006 Interclub Championship.
Where two drivers wish to share the driving of the same vehicle competing in the championship, they must register there intention to do so at their first event . They will then be a ‘registered team’. (Please note that a team has a maximum of two drivers)
When a driver or team register to compete in the championship, they must use the vehicle that was specified by them at the time of registration, unless that vehicle has been replaced during the season. Drivers / Teams cannot share vehicles.
Registration forms will be sent out to all past competitors who are current members of the participating clubs and will be available at every event.
Participation at any single event will remain open to all eligible drivers/teams and trophies will be awarded to Class winners etc.
However, only drivers/teams who are registered and are members of the named clubs will be awarded Championship points.
All drivers and passengers (Note. All passengers MUST also be Club members ) will at sign on, be issued with wrist bands or have their hand/arm stamped for insurance purposes. (Wrist Bands / Stamps to be provided by host club) .
CLASSES
The eligibility scrutineer will be responsible for ensuring a vehicle is entered in the correct class. The class structures for entrants vehicles are detailed below and a copy of these Regs. will be available for inspection at events and handed to entrants on request. They will also be sent to past entrants of Interclub safaris along with entry forms for the first safari. A full list of dates will be on display at events and will be included in the initial mail shot to all past entrants. The classes are as follows :
CLASS A
4 wheel drive vehicles. Petrol engine greater than 3600cc and coil sprung
CLASS B
4 wheel drive vehicles. Petrol engine between 2501cc and 3599cc and coil sprung
CLASS C
4 wheel drive vehicles. Petrol engine up to 2500cc and coil sprung
CLASS D
4 wheel drive vehicles with leaf springs and unlimited cc’s
CLASS E
All diesel engined vehicles
CLASS F
All 2 wheel drive vehicles.
Note : . The co-efficient of 1.7:1 for forced induction engines No Longer Applies

TECHNICAL REGS
The technical regs. Are based on the current MSA blue book. Copies of the blue book are supplied on successful award of a competition license. For copies of the technical regs. Please contact the Championship co-ordinator.
Tyres with a more open / aggressive pattern than Diamonds " cannot lay a pencil across tread pattern." ( i.e. Maxi Cross are not permitted.)

Any time penalties awarded will be added to the total combined lap times AFTER the slowest lap of the event has been dropped.
ABANDONED VEHICLES
Any vehicle left unattended at any time at an event must be immobilised i.e. ignition / Cut out key removed, ignition / coil lead off etc.
FIRST AID/ FIRE EXTINGUISHER
A first aider must be present at every event. He/She cannot be a competitor.
The name and location for the First Aider and the location of the first aid kit and Fire Extinguisher must be announced at the drivers briefing.
TOILETS
Toilets will be provided at EVERY event by the host club.
REFRESHMENTS
The provision of on site caterers is at the discretion of the host club.
COMMUNICATION
PMR radios will be made available by all clubs for use at every event.
TIMING
Timing of laps will be carried out by use of synchronised clocks, held by timekeepers at a central point where possible, with drivers time cards held by the time keepers.
Starting lights will be used at each event (provided by Mid Wales). Red – Stop , Amber 5sec warning ,Green – Go.
The time interval between vehicles leaving the start line will be a min of 1 and a max of 2 minutes depending on vehicle numbers and length of course.
Lap times will be displayed on a Scoreboard at every event, to remove any need for competitors to disrupt timekeepers.
The board must clearly display the Min. (Bogey Time) and Maximum time allowed for a single Lap . The times shown on the board may then reflect only the time taken in excess of the Minimum time allowed.
The method of recording times ie, Min./ Max. allowed times and the number of runs and the time interval between vehicles leaving the start line, MUST be announced to all Competitors at the Drivers briefing by the Clerk of Course.
Records of time taken :
Time cards will show "start time, finish time and lap time", which will show the actual time taken to complete the lap.
All entrants will compete at each event for class wins etc.
Class winners will be entrants who complete the required number of laps in a time nearest to the bogey time without equalling or improving upon the bogey time, winners will receive trophies, however, Championship points will only be awarded to Registered Drivers.
The points will be allocated purely on the registered drivers final position ie. 50 points for first, 49 for second and so on to the lowest placed finisher. No individual points will be awarded for where you finish in your class. Championship standings will be publicised in club newsletters and at events. Each driver will drop one result on completion of all rounds. When the owner of the vehicle shares the driving with different club members at events, (Team) the vehicle owner is given any forthcoming award at the end of the year.
CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHIES
The end of the year awards will consist of…
An overall Championship winner. (Not eligible for a class trophy in addition to overall trophy). Crystal trophy to be kept for 1 year plus a trophy to keep.
Trophy for first place in each class.
Awards on the day will be dependant on entry and awarded as per the class structure above.
APPEALS
Appeals affecting the individual events must be lodged as per the blue book and each event will have its own stewards and officials. (First instance report to COC. Where failure to agree, seek adjudication from steward).
Appeals/queries directly on the championship as a whole must be lodged as per the blue book and will be considered by the Championship organisers.
PUBLICITY
The only publicity will include…
The advertising of events in the motor sport column of the local newspaper, The South Wales Evening Post.
Event reports in the host clubs monthly newsletter and on the club web site.
Possible event listing in an off road magazine.
Bearmach PLC supplied the trophy for first overall in the 2000 Championships, which will be awarded again this year.
